Dr. Vaijayanti Gupta, Ph.D.

Dr. Vijayanti Gupta has been with Strand for over 8 years primarily as a genomics scientist, and more recently as part of the diagnostics laboratory. Prior to that, she received her Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Chemistry from Presidency College, University of Calcutta and obtained her Master of Science degree from the University of Calcutta. Thereafter, she received her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Maryland, College Park, in conjunction with Syngenta’s R&D labs in San Diego, California, USA. Following this, she worked as a Post – Doctoral Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, USA in the field of Genomics and Genetics, before returning to India to join Strand. She has extensive experience in both the wet lab and analyses in the field of Genetics and Genomics.

At Strand, she has worked on various key projects for the company, on genomics products like GeneSpring GX, ‘Solutions’ projects for pharma clients and academic collaborators in India and abroad. Along with her group, she has authored several research publications, including Cell and PLOS Genetics. She was instrumental in helping set up Strand’s diagnostic labs and standardization of various assays in this field. Presently, she leads the translational clinical research team that designs, standardizes and validates various diagnostics assays, as part of Strand’s Clinical Diagnostics offering in personalized medicine. The lab is located at the Translational Research Laboratory at Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center – Narayana Hrudayalaya.
