Mazumdar Shaw Center for Translational Research (MSCTR) has been established with the aim of developing scientific breakthroughs resulting in more effective and affordable healthcare for a wide range of human diseases and conditions. The center provides an interface for the integration of engineering, science and medicine in a discovery-centered environment towards the development of new treatment modalities.
Some of our on-going research projects are
- Development of whole next generation cancer genome sequencing approaches to rapidly characterize tumor heterogeneity and cancer clonal evolution during therapy
- Applying tissue engineering principles to develop culture systems that will provide us with better in vitro tumor modeling to understand cancer biology
- Development of new biomarkers for leukemia, glioblastoma and head & neck cancers
- Develop strategies to better identify patients who will not respond to conventional chemotherapy
- Understanding the role of microRNA in cancer pathology and development of RNAi-based therapeutics
- Improving targeted therapies for cancer by developing new delivery systems to deliver drugs locally and in therapeutic concentrations to relevant sites in living organisms
- Understanding the role of cancer stem cells in cancer development and relapse
